The stamp is not fully readable because of a back repair cleat that was put over part of the stamp: Spruce top with some repaired cracks and worm runs, bindings and rosette edged with mother-of-pearl and ebony, solid fruit wood back and sides both with some repaired cracks, original neck and peg head for 10 pegs, 5 original pegs, 4 of the peg holes were closed to play the guitar with 6 strings, ebony fingerboard with ivory frets and mother-of-pearl bindings, non original ebony bridge to change from 10 to 6 strings. | # JG1 | H. Derazey - France | A beautifully inlaid French Mirecourt guitar by the master violin and guitar maker Honore Derazey (1794-1883) This specimen dates circa 1831 and was likely Derazey’s personal work as his studio made guitars bore a paper label while his personal work was seldom labeled but rather branded in a very simple manner “H Derazey”. This guitar portrays Derazey’s experimental attempt to adapt the violin style adjustable pin bridge to the guitar and was an interesting departure from tradition and an important part of French guitar making history. It has a spruce top with birds eye maple back and sides ivory binding and an ebonized neck. It has extensive and intricate floral mother of pearl inlays at body edge, head and rosette. Original German silver tuning gear sets with ivory shafts and fan carved mother of pearl tuners. Very playable with a straight neck and good neck angle. Well repaired and stabilized hairline cracks in top at edge of fingerboard and in bridge area. Fingerboard looks to have been restored or replaced at some point in time for frets and board are in excellent condition with no valleys or wear. No cracks or separations in sides or back and has the original shellac finish. |

| # D1 | Anonymous - Germany or Austria | This beautiful antique romantic guitar has no label inside but should have been built around 1830, probably in Germany or Austria (maybe Vienna). It has been restored sometime ago and a few cracks on the top and a smaller damage at a body side have been repaired. The guitar is in a very good looking and well playable condition and has a nice sound. The neck is straight. All parts (besides the fret wires) seem to be original. The top is made of spruce and has nice wooden ornamentations. Back and sides are made of flamed maple. The fingerboard made of ebony is decorated with a mother of pearl inlay showing a flower. Machine heads and tuning keys are of brass, the tuning pegs seems to be ivory. The length of the guitar is 36.5" (93cm), the body is 17.5" (45 cm) long and 11.5" (30 cm) wide, the scale length is 24.5" (62 cm). |

| # D2 | Baum - Germany |
This antique romantic guitar has inside a hand written label which names the maker (T. Baum) and the date of building (1845). I have no further information about the luthier, but think the guitar has been built in Germany. The guitar is restored and in a very good looking and well playable condition. The neck is straight. Some cracks on the top and smaller damages at the sides have been repaired. The guitar has nice wooden inlays around the soundhole and besides the bridge. Bridge and wooden tuning pegs are original, as well as the fingerboard, which still has frets made of ivory or bone. The soundboard is made of spruce. I'm not sure, if back and sides are maple or if it's a similar wood. The length of the guitar is 36" (92cm), the body is 17.5" (45 cm) long and 11.5" (29 cm) wide, the scale length is 24" (61 cm). The action is fairly low, but is at its lowest possible, because bridge has been lowered, needs restoration to be playable, also there is some noise coming from the top, sounds like a loose brace under the bridge. Good strong dark sound with lots of midrange. | # D3 | Anonymous - Germany | This rare guitar lute has no label inside and I don't know its real age, but it should have been built around 1920, probably in Germany. The lute has a beautifully carved rosette and the top is richly decorated with wooden and bone inlays around the soundhole and at the rim. It has a rounded body with 41 fluted ribs and also bone and wooden inlays at its rim. The headstock ends in a carved flower. It has a slightly scalloped fingerboard. The top is made of spruce but I don't know which kind of wood is used for the ribs. The lute is tuned and can be played like a normal 6-string guitar. It is in a really good looking and well playable condition and just has smaller signs of age and a crack at the soundboard, which is repaired. The guitar lute comes with its original case. The length of the lute is 38" (96.5 cm), the body is 20" (51 cm) long and 12.5" (32 cm) wide, the scale length is 24.5" (62 cm). |

| # 1 (Raymond) | Panormo, London - England for Huerta | This guitar of Brazilian rosewood and spruce once belonged to Panormo's
son-in-law, Huerta. It not only belonged to Huerta, but it was also his
playing instrument. The guitar has a hand written label stating the
guitar was made for Panormo's son-in-law: A.F. Huerta. According to
James Westbrook, author of "The century that shaped the guitar" this
label was put into the guitar in the 1860's by Edward Panormo who in
turn sold the guitar. According to Westbrook, "The soundboard used for
this guitar is certainly of older stock, possibly that 'exceptional'
soundboard that a luthier reserves for a special client. The
dendrochronology results dated the spruce soundboard at 1764 - 1765."
This could easily have been some of his father stock "Vincenzo
Panormo". The other interesting part to this guitar is the flush
soundboard, definitely a special made guitar, as Panormo made almost
all of his guitars with a standard fingerboard. "Madame Pelzer
reiterates the fact that Panormo did make special one off guitars for
clients" this being one of them. "She also states that a handsome
inlaid instrument made especially by Panormo was presented as a gift to
Sor", like the other Panormo in this collection. This guitar has been
published in "James Westbrook, The Century That Shaped the Guitar". Please contact seller directly: raymond@lacote.com.au |

| # 004R | Etienne Laprevotte, Paris - France | The only other known examples of this model guitar is at the Barcelona Museum (Aguado's guitar) and one at the Paris museum. This was Laprevotte's top model with the enlosed ivory tuners and decorative table. This guitar is in complete original condition. It came from a private collection in Paris where it remained in storage for 40+ years, so the guitar avoided the hands of many potential restorers. This guitar's bracing consist of two long bass bars. Back and sides of figured Satinwood with the back carved from a solid piece. The label has a hand written date of 1844. This date corresponds to Laprevotte's known address at this time. Could this be his hand writing? The photo is of Aguado playing an instrument identical to this one in design, bridge type etc. The etching is a tad elongated making the instrument look slightly longer and thinner. |
